This blog is designed for the purpose of posting new photography of street art in the world. The photos are generally my own, but I'm not dedicated to posting my own photography, that's not the point. Photos by others are noted as such.
The idea is simply that street art is a challenging art form that can be as engaging as anything in a gallery, and even more so because of it's public locations, the legal ramifications, and the processes under which this takes place. Street art is a unique art form in our time (though it has existed for much longer than you might realize). It is a singular form because of these conditions, it does partake in supply and demand of the art world as generally presented and doesn't require the notoriety generally required to be seen in the stuffed suit world of art.
There really isn't any glory in the art form. With the potential of being arrested in process and the generally anonymous functions of artist in the viewers experience, it is a completely unique form of art. Outside of monsters of the art form, such as Banksy, most artists are content with this anonymity, which allows them to create what they wish.
So, why create a site where their work can be put on display? Because it's a genuinely modern art form that cannot be seen in galleries, it's not for the elite, it's not for tourists, and if you don't live somewhere that is regularly exposed to this type of art, or the quality of artistry possible in street art you are missing something major that is taking place in our world. This site will never be a fair assessment of the varieties of street art, nor will it showcase particular artists regularly, or even bring a bit from the best in the world, but it is a place to see the wide variety available. From graffiti, to stickers, to street sculpture, to pastes, to marker scrawlings, I want to not just have the giant wheat pastes or the most elegant sprays, but the smaller works as well to provide the scope in which this art form can be manifest.
